The process of upgrading an item, often referred to as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment boosts the stat linearly.
Players can recycle six items at a time to gain a gauge for each item's upgraded component. The cost of recycling a piece of equipment increases according to their rarity and level.
Upgrade components
A level upgrade in Guild Wars 2 is a procedure that can improve the effectiveness of your weapons and armor. This can be accomplished through a variety of methods through the use of upgrade components or increasing an item's rarity or mark level. Additionally, many items can be reforged, which could increase their stats.
Upgradeable items can be found throughout the game, both within the world and as rewards for missions. Players can also make them. The most common method of upgrading gear is through the use of upgrade components, which are items that can be inserted into equipment. The amount of upgrade components required for a given item can be seen in the upper-right corner of the window for upgrading. The cost of upgrading increases with the level of upgrade and rarity, however it can be reduced by a variety of methods, including purchasing upgrades at a merchant or trading them with other players.
Many weapons can be improved with a prefix, such as a rune or an insignia, and others can be improved with an suffix. The majority of upgrade components that are installed into items cannot be removed or replaced without removing them, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a rune or glyph you don't want to use, but it hasn't been applied to gear yet, you can move the item to another piece by selecting the Upgrade Glyphs menu on the Glyphs Panel. This will create the new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.
You can take out the glyph using a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. The item will be destroyed in which it is installed however, you can salvage the upgraded item by using the glyph and its fragments, so this should not be considered as a loss.
If you take an item off after adding a glyph, the shards from the glyph will vanish. You can also apply a glyph to your equipment to give it an additional benefit. Deferred Damage, for example can be used to store damage and be distributed slowly to the wearer rather than all at once. This is helpful for those who take lots of damage from enemies, but don't want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens are used to change the affixes that are placed on weapons and other equipment. They can be obtained from a variety of sources, including mysterious boxes or rare drops from skulled monsters or by killing bosses. Each reroll token grants the player a brand new random affix, which is typically better than the original one. Reroll tokens can also be used to improve weapon stats to cause more damage or bonuses.
Items that have been rerolled will not appear in the upgrade menu, but they still qualify to receive upgrades. When you press the "upgrade button" you can recycle these recycled items. This will alter the design of the item's window, and allow up to six items to be chosen to recycle. The level gauge is increased by recycling an item. This amount is determined by the rarity of the item and its level. Therefore, items that are higher level are more valuable to recycle than items with lower levels.
Players can also use Reroll Tokens and Star Remnants to roll rerolling weapons to upgrade units. Rerolls roll the % chance of a weapon trait; if it rolls higher, the weapon is upgraded. If it is lower, it remains the same. Weapons can be upgraded up to three times.
Rerolling is a fantastic way to upgrade an item. However, players should be aware of the fact that the total ilvl will be decreased by the number of the rerolls required to bring it to the final level. This reduction effect is most effective with ring items and Diadems, which have no competing ilvl-raising options.
The system of rerolls has been criticised by players for being expensive, and it would be more fair to let people pay for it using money or a food item that would allow players to alter their build without wasting time and energy. The developers aren't planning to implement paid rerolls at this point in the game's development. Instead, they plan to add an ability to change races in the future.
Leveling
There are many ways to increase the level of an upgrade to an item. The first method of leveling up an upgrade to an item is by increasing the amount of upgrade. This increases the value of upgrading any stat. The second option is to boost the effect of the upgrade, which increases the damage or healing of a stat. The base item can be upgraded to an advanced upgrade type. After this, the new item will keep its iLevel, but will be upgraded with the effects of the upgraded item type.
It is important to remember that upgrades are random. In the majority of cases, a better roll is based on the glyphs. However, there are times when a greater or special roll may occur. Additionally, the iLevel of the upgrade will be determined by the type of item, so should you upgrade a rare or unique item to an extraordinary type, it has a chance to get an iLevel that is higher.
Upgrades to items can be costly, particularly when you're upgrading a piece of equipment from the standard to legendary track. The cost of upgrading an item will be contingent on its base iLevel as well as the amount of upgrade levels. Some upgrade tracks also require crests to be completed in order to move on to the next level.
If you're lucky, your upgraded item will be at the highest level on its upgrade track and unlock an additional benefit. This will result in a significant boost in the upgrade value of the item.
